Dear Nijay,

Thank you; your paper has helped me to prepare my studies plan. I applied PhD at a university in UK, and the university has given me an opportunity to start my studies with MA programme. However, I failed to get a required TOEFL score when I took the test, and I plan to take my second test next month. I would like to ask you, whether I could postpone my studies plan about one year if I fail the test again, because I need more time to prepare my English.

Hi, great article, but I still have some questions. You said, generally speaking, a PhD. in a TS school looks better than one from a seminary, but I was wondering about something. Union Theological Seminary is affiliated with Columbia University. What does that mean exactly? I've heard Union Theological is among the best graduate schools for religious studies in the country, but it's a seminary. Would you recommend Union or Columbia? It's all very confusing to me at this point.

For anyone interested in a British PhD without residency requirement, have a look at this:

http://web.me.com/tmoritz

This is the same 'London School of Theology' program that Joel Green used to be involved in before moving to Fuller.

Nice job! I serving a small United Methodist church as pastor after 30+ years as a field linguist and university professor. I know a lot about universities and seminaries, and you have captured a great deal of important information for people thinking about graduate work in NT. I am sure this information is valuable; thanks for creating an excellent resource.

Hi....

A quick correction about the First Tier Canadian schools you mentioned.

Both McMaster and the University of Toronto offer full funding for all PhD students. This is regardless of whether the student is Canadian or is a foreign student. Generally minimum funding consists of full tuition and a living stipend (made up of a scholarship and a TA position) which equals about $13 000-$15 000 per year.

hi dan.
No, I don't know much yet, but I have asked biblical professors in universities here in the UK, and most say it is a very respectable place to go, with high standards. Don't know much else though.
bless
